Beyond the Rise, a targeted campaign building upon the success of Roanoke Rising
Roanoke College was poised to celebrate the successful completion of Roanoke Rising, a comprehensive campaign that supported all aspects of a Roanoke education. One additional priority⏤a project crucial to a complete campus renewal⏤was to fund and build a state-of-the-art science center at the heart of campus. In order to build upon the success of the existing campaign and communicate the importance of this additional project, a targeted campaign⏤which we branded “Beyond the Rise”⏤was created. This theme, which paid homage to the geography of the campus, allowed the College to build upon past success and generate investment in the future.

A discovery process included interviews with Roanoke’s leadership, leadership donors, alumni, Board, and science faculty. Key campaign messages were drawn from the common language shared in those sessions and honed to create a clear, compelling, and concise case for support that resonated with the entire community.
The theme “Beyond the Rise: The Campaign to Elevate the Sciences at Roanoke” was created as a clear evolution of the “Roanoke Rising” theme while serving as a distinctive, aspirational next step in the process. It ties into the natural and physical environment that surrounds campus, which is a source of inspiration for the Roanoke community, is forward-looking like the sciences, and invites supporters to think of the College’s future and how to best prepare the next generation.
