Malvern Prep, located in suburban Philadelphia, garners lots of media attention for its stellar athletics, but those on the inside know the school is so much more than sports. A branding and messaging project uncovered and illuminated the bigger, more accurate picture: that Malvern students, empowered by a loving community, achieve at the highest levels individually and collectively⏤in academics, athletics, arts, and service⏤as they become men who lead with humility and heart.

Sometimes the solution is to re-fresh not to re-do. For Malvern Prep, their historic coopla continued to be the icon that was best suited to represent their Augustinian education and beautiful campus. We emboldened the icon, modernized the typography and added the year they were founded to highlight their long tradition of educating young men.
A Guide to the Brand was an essential tool for faculty and staff, parents, and board members as they embarked on their role as brand ambassadors. It provided them with the clear, authentic language they needed to describe the essential difference between Malvern and peer schools in both official and everyday conversations.
The visual representation of the Malvern brand included the use of a “/” to show that the school is “both/and”—Independent/Augustian, and that this valuable combination is what is at the core of Malvern’s strength as an educational institution.
